Frequently asked questions

What is BCI and why should I use it?

The LCA platform for optimising circular economy and carbon performance of construction projects.

What do I get out of it?

BCI provides dashboards, PDF reports, Excel exports and materials passports for design, procurement and reporting.

What do I need to start?

Basic information such as building type, size and main construction elements is sufficient to start.

Standards, datasets and coverage

BCI aligns with European building LCA standards such as EN 15978 and EN 15804.

Modelling approach

A scenario represents a specific design or material choice that can be compared with alternatives.

Integration & data exchange

BCI supports integration through structured exports and can be integrated into enterprise environments through scoped integration projects (including API-based exchange where required). Integration scope (read/write, documentation, examples, licensing) is typically defined per enterprise agreement to match governance and security requirements.

Governance & security

BCI supports collaborative working through shared projects, structured scenarios and role‑based workflows. Clear role separation (for example editor, reviewer and approver) is implemented through permissions and governance agreements, allowing multiple teams to contribute without loss of control or traceability. Project teams can be extended with external parties, such as consultants or contractors, who can be assigned clearly defined and restricted roles. This enables controlled collaboration across organisational boundaries while maintaining data ownership, auditability and quality assurance.

Project lifecycle: from early design to end of life

BCI supports the full asset lifecycle, including concept and early design, developed design, construction and as‑built assessment, operation and renovation planning, and end‑of‑life or deconstruction planning. Early phases focus on optioneering and strategic material choices using estimates and proxies, while later phases progressively refine the model with product‑specific and as‑built data.

Frameworks, compliance and formal evidence

BCI is aligned with a wide set of assessment frameworks and policy instruments. It is currently compliant with Dutch and international frameworks such as MPG, MEPG, Paris Proof, Construction Stored Carbon, The New Normal, Quick Carbon Indicator and GRESB, and supports portfolio‑level ESG and carbon reporting.
